From Mexico and the American Southwest comes the legend of La Llorona, the weeping woman who wanders the river at night wailing for her lost children, a figure embodying the essence of inconsolable grief.
Dr. Freedle will explore the legend of La Llorona to elucidate the healing journey of a 13-year-old Olivia, overcome by traumatic grief after losing her childhood playmates in a double murder-suicide.
Drawing from the images of Olivia’s sandplay therapy series and the work of prominent neuroscientists, Dr. Freedle will review the effects of trauma on the brain and explain four essential processes that facilitate neural integration and transformative healing in the wake of traumatic loss.
