Workshop Description:

The brain is a complex organ moved by the mysteries of the psyche. Sandplay therapy provides an enriched sensory and relational experience that moves the psyche and promotes neurodevelopment and healing. As we touch and move sand, play freely, symbolize and self-reflect in the presence of an attuned therapist multiple brain systems are activated and synchronized.

This workshop explore the neuropsychology of sandplay therapy (Freedle, 2017) and the applications of Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics ^® (Perry, 2006, 2009) to sandplay therapy (Freedle, 2019).

Course Objectives:

1. Define brain and psyche in the neuropsychology of sandplay therapy.
2. Describe how sandplay promotes neurodevelopment.
3. Discuss activities in sandplay that correlate with functional domains of the brain in Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics® (NMT).
